Hong Kong's population is 7,235,043 with 3,880,572 women and 3,354,471 men. With a population density of 6,650 people per square kilometre Hong Kong has limited space to expand. Yet still continues to expands, out onto the water, land and up towards the sky. Hong Kong’s population distrabution is mainly around the Harbours of the Pearl River Delta and Victoria Harbour. Hong Kong's old tradition blends perfectly with Western culture and post-modern trends, Hong Kong is a place of multicoloured variety. The people of Hong Kong get the freedom of religion, many types of international cuisines and a number of the ethnic groups. The high concentration of people in just a few square kilometres is due partly to the fact that the development did not take place until well into the 1970s and therefore most of the population had to be accommodated in the main urban area. Hong Kong’s big population density has contributed to many problems for the city as well as its benifits to developing the city.
