The negative effects of high population density effect the traffic. Traffic in Hong Kong, as a city of success, has a very extensive transport network. It extends to all directions of Hong Kong. Although roads in Hong Kong are very narrow and the number of cars on the road at once are huge. The most serious transport problem is traffic congestion and the situation is even worse during peak hours. The traffic in Hong Kong is busy both on and under ground. Another major transport problem is the uneven distribution of traffic. The Hong Kong population choose the least expensive way to travel causing an imbalance in the traffic distribution. For example, most of the cars use the Hung Hum Cross Harbour Tunnel instead of the Western Harbour Tunnel. The government did a lot of things to resolve the problems, such as construct some overpasses, subways and bypasses to dredge the traffic off local streets. An alternative solution is to take public transport instead of private cars.
